Kecik-Kecik 2025 Group Show at Hin Bus Depot
I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the Kecik-Kecik Group Show at Hin Bus Depot, where two of my origami artworks were exhibited from May 30, 2025 until June 2nd, 2025. It was a meaningful experience to share my work in a space that celebrates creativity and community, and I deeply appreciate Penang Art District, Hin Bus Depot, and Arteesan for making it possible.
The first piece I showcased was Tecoma, inspired by the fleeting yet breathtaking bloom of Tecoma flowers in Malaysia. Much like the Sakura in Japan, these blossoms transform their surroundings in spring, offering a moment of quiet beauty. I wanted to capture that essence through modular origami—120 folded units arranged in a tight, twisting formation that echoes the way Tecoma appears from a distance. No glue was used, only the precision and patience of paper folds holding the structure together.
The second piece, Yoshimura, explores one of origami’s fundamental tessellations. Though subtle at first glance, the triangular Yoshimura pattern forms the four petals in each unit, which are then locked together to create a polyhedral shape. Again, 120 pieces of paper, no adhesive—just the geometry of folds and the elegance of structure. This piece reflects my fascination with how architectural principles can be translated into organic, delicate forms.
Being part of this group exhibition allowed me to connect with fellow artists and viewers who appreciate the quiet complexity of origami. It reminded me that even the smallest folds can carry stories, and that art—no matter its scale—has the power to evoke emotion and spark dialogue.
